Reporting to: BI Development Lead

Location: Office-based, South Manchester

Main purpose of the role: To develop and maintain UD Group’s core product offerings in Power BI, working within an AGILE methodology with specific responsibility for business intelligence, product enhancement and MI dashboard development.


Key tasks: 

  • Developing, deploying, and maintaining BI interfaces
  • Development of new reports and dashboards in Power BI
  • Administration of UD Group’s Power BI Service
  • Data warehouse maintenance and bringing new data into the landscape
  • Strategically improving the UD Group core product offering through the utilisation of Power BI
  • Working actively with the Development team, Test team, Product Owners and others to ensure best possible quality
  • Understanding and using software methodologies, Test Driven Development, Agile Scrum and Continuous Integration
  • Taking part in Scrum Ceremonies such as Planning and Estimation meetings, retrospectives and morning stand-ups

 The technical skills required can include a combination of the following:

  • Power BI, DAX, M Code
  • SQL Server, T-SQL, Data Warehousing
  • SSIS, Azure Data factory
  • SSAS

The platform and tools in operation include:

  • Azure
  • Azure DevOps
  • Power BI.
  • Git
  • Jira
  • Microsoft Flow / Azure Logic Apps

Essential skills required:

  • Strong knowledge and proven track record of development languages/skills (as listed above)
  • Strong commercial Power BI development experience
  • Strong experience in providing end-to-end BI solutions
  • Extensive knowledge of data warehouse development and principles
  • Experienced in developing data pipelines using ELT/ ETL and DWH/data marts
  • Experience of Agile delivery approaches and DevOps
  • Good verbal and written communication
  • The ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Experience of working on a variety of platforms (as listed above)
  • Effective team working and communication skills
  • Understanding of the need for security compliance
  • A logical and methodical mindset
  • A demonstrable ability to work autonomously
